I presume by "b’hai" you mean "Baha'i".

Institutional issues are common these days - most religions have institutions and authorities that require a lot of work to define on the basis of the guidance of their Founders - Jesus is no exception. But Christianity was on community for about 1000 years before the Orthodox, and then the Protestant breaks. Now Christians spend no little time proselytizing against eachother.

Baha'is have a different approach. First the chain of authority is far more defined, and the rules include anonymous voting for leaders of Assemblies - and we can vote for anyone in the community (there is no "running for office".)

Of course there are religious issues any Christian must investigate to grapple with changing religions - one is how Baha'is view Jesus. But the simple way to put it is every Christian I know who converted to the Baha'i Faith felt closer to Jesus afterwards than before.

May your endeavors reflect the Light of God - (and from another former physics student!)

Great post. Be worried when you stop asking those questions. When we do not give credence to the importance of context, we run the risk of an trying to share a relevant Gospel in irrelevant ways. And who does that help? Be well!

One of my good friends at home gave me the server space for free, but you can pay to have the domain name and server space with a wordpress blog. It's pretty easy:

http://wordpress.org/hosting/

Yes, my time is almost up in Thailand. I will be going home July 5th and plan to begin studying at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky this January.

[...] Like Paul, it makes me wonder…Seung Hui Cho went to church. That’s like saying the walking wounded made it all the way to the hospital. I don’t know about all the collective shame our Asian culture professes, but I feel the same way I did when my wife told me yesterday of a doctor not calling the right diagnosis which led to an eleven year-old dying before he had to. Seung Hui Cho died before he ever got a glimpse of why he was created. And he was willing to kill others because he didn’t see any value in them or himself. [...]

The HUP is not the best way to fulfill God's commandment to love thy neighbor; God wants us to love those who are different from ourselves, as well as those who are like ourselves. I think He wants us to love all kinds of others.

As for how culture and theology relate-- that's a very big question, and a good one that needs to be wrestled with more thoroughly and thoughtfully. In some ways, theology can transform and redeem culture in areas where it falls short of God's Kingdom ideals, and there are also parts of culture that can be celebrated for being an expression of God's creativity.
